The Pine Perspective proudly presents…. Our favorite quarantivities to get you through lulls during the lockdown
For some activities that are on brand as ~quarantivities~, these have been some our fave ways to pass the time:
Movies/ TV Series:
Contagion (2011): This movie is eerily reflective (though definitely still fictitious) of the implications associated with a highly infectious respiratory disease
Pandemic (2020): Again, eerily reflective of what it takes to address a global outbreak
Books:
The Plague by Albert Camus
The Stranger by Albert Camus
How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell
The Perfect Predator by Steffanie A. Strathdee
Walden by Henry David Thoreau
Podcasts:
The Daily: a short & sweet daily dose of news
The Journal: one of our fave episodes recently talked about how plasma transfusions from survivors could aid in COVID-19 treatment for those still battling the disease
What the Health?: provides a unique lens into health policy and insurance, and some of their recent episodes reflect on the future of the ACA in this political climate
Science Vs: they’ve recently been dissecting a lot of the coronavirus fads that have been circulating misinformation!
For when you want to get your mind off of Corona, these are some of our fave distractions:
Movies/ TV Series:
He’s Just Not That Into You (2009): A Pine Perspective throwback fave especially since being back in our childhood rooms has us all feeling nostalgic
Parasite (2019): Now streaming on Hulu! This chilling movie takes you through all emotions while making strong social statements that make us think long and hard about poverty, wealth, disparity, and values.
The Pink Panther (2006): Some good ‘ol good cop bad cop humor to pass the time.
The Goonies (1985): Escape on an adventure with The Goonies (from the safety and comfort of your couch).
Tiger King (2020): Is Tiger King what we needed during this lockdown, or was the lockdown what Tiger King needed to go viral? Either way, this docu-series is binge-worthy and worth the hype.
Little Fires Everywhere (2020): Reese Witherspoon is back at it again, and this show channels major ‘Big Little Lies’ vibes
Books:
Life on Mars by Tracy K. Smith
Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion
Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Podcasts:
How I Built This with Guy Raz: One of their recent episodes features the Ben & Jerry’s founders, and we don’t know about you, but their Boom Chocolotta Cookie Core flavor was definitely one of our impulse buys at the grocery store this season
It’s Been a Minute with Sam Sanders
MUSIC:
Have you been tired of listening to the same 3 playlists on loop? Ya, us too.. SO we’re curating a ~quarantime~ playlist here that we’ll be updating every week to mix up your quarantunes!
All that said, here's a quick reminder on the actual terminology used to describe current measures:
